Almas Qureshi โ€” Best Secondary Teacher UAE 2023/24

Bhilai, Chhattisgarh ยท India
Where It All Began
I grew up in Bhilai โ€” a small, spirited steel city where community ran deep and education was everything. Teaching wasn’t just a profession in my family; it was a calling passed down through generations. My mother left formal teaching when we were born, but she never stopped being a teacher โ€” she taught us at home with patience, creativity, and a quiet dedication that planted the seed long before I stood in front of my first classroom.
“Education runs in our family. So when I became a teacher, it felt less like a career choice and more like coming home.”

The Classroom Calls
My teaching career began in India. From the very first lesson, I discovered the deep satisfaction of watching a learner make a connection they didn’t think they could. That feeling โ€” of witnessing someone realise their own capability โ€” never left me. It still drives everything I do today.

Delhi Public School & Manarat International School
ICT Teacher ยท CBSE & IGCSE Curricula
My first international chapter began at Delhi Public School Jeddah, teaching ICT under the CBSE curriculum and taking on leadership responsibilities within the school. I then moved to Manarat International School, where I taught ICT across the IGCSE framework โ€” a rich, rigorous experience that deepened my understanding of international education.
Teaching across two very different curricula in the same city taught me something invaluable: great teaching isn’t about the syllabus. It’s about the relationship between the educator and the learner โ€” and meeting every student exactly where they are.

Raffles World Academy
Head of Technology ยท Innoventures Education Group
Joining Raffles World Academy changed everything. My first encounter with the International Baccalaureate was a revelation โ€” the inquiry-based philosophy, the belief that students are active participants in their own learning, aligned perfectly with everything I believed education should be.
I grew from teacher to Head of Technology, designed and led STREAM programmes, coached competition teams to international recognition, and stepped onto regional conference stages for the first time. In 2013, an informal session I ran for teachers afraid of a new LMS changed the direction of my career entirely โ€” I realised the gap in education isn’t technology, it’s confidence. It was also here that I began integrating AI tools into teaching practice โ€” years before it became the conversation it is today.

Beyond the CV
The Person Behind the Work
I live with Rheumatoid Arthritis โ€” a condition that has taught me more about resilience and adaptation than any professional development course ever could. It has made me a better mentor: more patient, more attuned to what others are carrying, and more committed to finding solutions that work for real people in real circumstances.
I love solving puzzles and meeting new people โ€” two things that shape how I work professionally. Every school is a puzzle worth solving. Every educator is a person worth understanding. And one of my greatest joys remains coaching students for the World Scholar’s Cup โ€” watching young people discover their own intellectual confidence is, and will always be, one of the most rewarding things I do.
